Taste the difference, make a difference

The youth make a difference initiative

Westwood Raised Garden Beds

Food security is taught and addressed in all agricultural education classes taught at Westwood High School in Mesa, AZ. Nutrition is a huge issue in many schools across the nation because of the easily accessible fats, sugars, and carbohydrates. This initiative tackles this issue head on by putting the power into the students’ hands to grow what they want, when they want. The goal is to show them how delicious fresh produce is. A huge part of the National FFA Organization is community service. Through this initiative, students will engage with community members participating in workshops about gardening, and eventually sell produce at the farmer’s market. This will allow a larger audience reach, spreading the word of good produce and applicable skills taught at the school.
